Coronavirus advice for shul-goers:

As we enter a dangerous phase in the spread of Coronavirus with many Jewish communities being in heavily affected areas, we have put together some top tips for staying safe in shul.

  • Do not share Tallitot as it can pass the virus, in fringe cases.
  • When you get to shul, and you wish people a Shabbat Shalom, be sure to use the Vulcan hand salute rather than shaking hands. If a Cohen gives you a Vulcan hand salute make sure not to look directly at them.
  • The Whiskey at the Kiddush should kill Coronavirus but don’t rely on it as it has usually been watered down.
  • Be careful during the Rabbi’s drasha, is she bores you to sleep people may think you’ve succumbed to the virus. If you hear coughing during the sermon, it’s more likely to be quiet objections to the contents of the talk.
  • When kissing the Sefer Torah when it comes around, make sure not to use tongues.
  • If you are wearing a surgical mask, remember we can still hear you talking all the way through the service.
  • Please be careful when interacting with the ladies guild; most of them will be the highest risk group being over 80-years-old.
