Star Wars: Rise of the Skywalker spoiler-free review for frummers

by Rav Shmuly Yankleberg

Firstly, I have to say it’s totally asur min hashomoyim to watch this film. Having said that, I had to watch it to make sure the kehilla is properly warned about the danger to Klal Yisrael in it.

I went to the cinema, but I was worried about maris eyin, so I hid my peyos in a baseball cap and blacked up my face.

I’ve heard of the Star Wars before. It was Ronald Ragen, a good President to us, who first came up with the idea. As we know, before he was a ruler, he was in the Hollywood. This is where he met all the yidden and became a friend to us.

Look, this film is a major problem. It has many elements that could take a yidden off the derech. They have dybuks, shiksa’s who are not so tznius, and they don’t mention hakadosh barchu hu, not even once.

Then there are these people running around doing magic and other things that are completely asur de’oraisa. They have this thing called the force which is really the aibishter but they have no yiros shomoyim.

I have to say, I liked the sword fighting scenes, but this narishkite took away two and a half hours of Torah study that I’ll never get back.

Overall, I was disappointed that Dr Spock was not in this one. Otherwise, it was ok.

I’d give the movie 4/5 ****

Next week I’ll be reviewing Jumanji: The Next Level.
